An update on Alabama Motorsports Park

Hey check this out. If you thought the Alabama Motorsports Park was never going to happen, well, it appears there is a public hearing this week for those who are interested in weighing in on the subject. I predict the park will be built and from everything that I hear, it will feature Nationwide Series and Truck Series races when it is complete.

PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 19
Show Your Support For Alabama Motorsports Park

MOBILE, AL - Public comments on the proposed Alabama Motorsports Park, A Dale Earnhardt Jr. Speedway, off Interstate 65, near Industrial Parkway and Kali Oka Roads, will be heard June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Saraland Civic Center, 716 Mae St., hosted by the Army Corps of Engineers.
An informal open house will be held from 6-7 p.m. to allow the public to view the site plans for the $624 million motorsports and entertainment complex on 2,400 acres.
The developers, Gulf Coast Entertainment LLC, submitted a revised design in December after the corps found that the original site plan on the banks of Chickasabogue Creek would have altered more than three miles of stream and affected 177 acres of wetlands.
The original proposal was open for public comments shortly after its submission, but this public hearing will give community members an opportunity to put their voice on the record.
Reconfiguring the number and layout of tracks reduced the wetlands impact to about 87 acres.
The complex will also include a 5,000-space motor home or RV park, and retail and entertainment facilities.
The public can submit comments and letters of support for the proposal via e-mail
to damon.m.young@sam.usace.army.mil, call 251-690-2658 or by mail to PO Box 2288, Mobile, AL 36628.
