Michael Waltrip Racing, Aaron's extend partnership

Michael Waltrip Racing and Aaron’s announced a continuation of their long-term partnership and an upgrade in sponsorship — moving the company to the Sprint Cup level with a bonus of 10 races in the Nationwide Series.

“We are proud to extend our relationship with Michael, David and MWR in 2009,” said Robin Loudermilk, president and CEO of Aaron Rents Inc. “As Aaron’s enters its 10th year of partnership with MWR, we look forward to continuing our alliance, which has been such a vital component of Aaron’s brand awareness and growth over the years.”

The new deal puts Aaron’s on David Reutimann’s No. 00 Sprint Cup car 18 times a year for the next three years. The new sponsorship calls for a number switch for Reutimann, who is currently in the No. 44 UPS Toyota. The team will take the points from the No. 44 and swap them with the double zero and vice-versa, according to Waltrip. Aaron’s will also sponsor the MWR’s No. 99 Nationwide Series car for 10 races each year. Waltrip and Reutimann will split driving duties.

Loudermilk said his company remains committed to NASCAR and believes its fan base is vital to Aaron’s success.

“We looked around 10 years ago and looked at the fan base of NASCAR and looked up in the stands and realized all of those fans are our customers,” Loudermilk told The Examiner in an private interview after the announcement. “We venture to say that a lot of the NASCAR fans are in need of the furniture and items that we lease. Our program helps them get products that they normally couldn’t get through cash or traditional credit needs. That is our model. That is our value proposition — to acquire quality products, name brand big ticket items trough a non-credit-based transaction and I think NASCAR just kind of hits our fan base right in the middle.”

A few minutes later, Waltrip walked over and expressed his gratitude for Aaron’s support.

“I think the fact that we just got NAPA signed back up for 09 and Aaron’s and Toyota’s long term commitment, it has got to make other sponsors think, ‘well, those are longtime sponsors, they appreciate what they are doing. Let’s investigate that a little more and see if we want to be a part of that, as well.’ That is why I feel really confident in our ability to attract a sponsor for what will become the double zero car next year.”
